BRINGING NEW IDEAS TO THE ARCHITECTURAL FIELD THROUGH THE AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF ARCHITECTS

The founding of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) back in 1857 was one of the best things that happened to the architectural industry in the United States. The organisation which has its headquarters in Washington DC was founded with the aim of bringing improvements to the construction industry as well as changing the tainted image of the sector. At the time of its founding, people viewed the construction industry as one which was lowly and meant for those that couldn’t find better jobs. This perception made a high number of people run away from construction courses leaving only a few to study for the course. Also, many institutions did not offer the course since there was little demand for it. Visit at DC Meetings to know more about  AIA.

Initially, only thirteen architects were in the organisation. The number of members has since increased over the years due to changes in people’s perception towards the industry. The society now appreciates the good work that architects do daily. If it were not for them, the professionally designed buildings that we see today would not exist. They are responsible for the numerous developments found in different cities in the United States as well as other parts of the world. Some of the names that were involved in founding the organisation include Henry W. Cleaveland, Henry Dudley, Richard M. Upjohn, Fred A. Petersen, Edward Gardiner, Joseph C, Wells and Leopold Eidlitz.

The American Institute of Architects increased its intensity when they appointed Robert Ivy as the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Vice President of the agency in February 2011. The decision has proved to be a great one. Since his appointment as the leader at American Institute of Architects, he has helped the agency make several strides. Under his leadership, more professionals have joined AIA over the years making it one of the most successful construction organisations in and out of the USA. For his many efforts, Robert Ivy has received several recognitions. In 1998, he was gifted the Management Excellence in McGraw Hill Award and later in 2009 awarded the Crain Award from the American Business Media. His excellent performance also saw him become named the Master Architect by the National Architect Fraternity. Learn more about Robert Ivy at Steel Institute of New York

Robert Ivy studied at the Sewanee University of the South where he attained a Bachelor of Arts in English degree. Before becoming the head at AIA, he worked at Architectural Records and the McGraw Hill Construction Media. Apart from his work with AIA, Robert has also written a construction book called Fay Jones: Architect. The book was identified as one of the best architectural pieces by The Library of North America.
